Description/Job Summary
Perdue R&D Tech executes assigned development activities with minimal supervision. Conducts experiments in lab, pilot plant, and manufacturing facilities.
Responsibilities/Duties
1. Conducts bench top, pilot plant, and plant testing as specified by Food Technologists and/or Engineers.
2. Sets up and operates kitchen, lab, pilot plant equipment. Disassembles, sanitizes, and reassembles equipment as required.
3. Prepares for required experiments and tests by acquiring ingredients and equipment. Follows GMP and USDA procedures as needed. Arranges for material shipment to and from test facilities following USDA regulations
4. Maintains work areas in clean orderly condition.
5. Documents work as required in a timely manner.
Required Education
AA degree in a technical discipline plus 1 -2 years related work experience (food experience) or in the absence of an AA degree, total experience would equal 5 years. Basic technical skills (high school chemistry and math or equivalent). Good mechanical aptitude. Must work well with others and able to take direction. Must be organized and conduct housekeeping activities to maintain clean and sanitary work areas. Excellent oral and written communication and planning skills. Must know Microsoft Word and Excel. Occasional overtime and travel may be required.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a routine basis.
2. May need to access files, supplies and equipment.
3. When in a plant environment:
o Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
o May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
o May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
o May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
o May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.
o Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
