Responsibilities:
The Production Superintendent is responsible for the supervision, coordination, and scheduling of all production trades in the shipbuilding processWith their knowledge of ship construction, marine engineering and applicable construction regulations, it's expected that the Production Superintendent will create detailed milestones of production and ensure that said milestones are metWhen challenges arise due to materials, personnel, equipment availability, etc., they must be able to overcome them quickly and efficiently by forming alternative plansIt's important that this individual possesses a solid understanding of engineering and construction to fill the niche between Chesapeake Shipbuilding's engineering team and production tradesOver 10 different trades are directly involved with ship production at Chesapeake Shipbuilding and the Production Superintendent will have to have a basic grasp of each trade to fulfill the job requirementsOther duties include engineering support work to skilled trades, and other office duties (typical of a small office) as assigned.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & TASKS:
Read and understand drawings core to building a ship, such as general arrangements, lines plan, structures, hull scantling plans, tonnage, machinery arrangements, structural fire protection, side profiles, and one-line diagrams for piping and electric Understand the basics of metal fabrication, welding, electrical distribution, pipe fitting, plumbing, paint, insulation, sheet metal work, and diesel machinery. Regularly check work of skilled trades and interface with QC department to facilitate corrections as necessary. Hold regular meetings, formal & in-formal, with trade foremen and contractors to establish clear expectations of responsibility and completion dates Coordinate day-to-day scheduling of trades to achieve efficient work and prevent conflicts. Understand, identify, and manage critical path items to ensure on-time delivery of ships Provide specific feedback to trade foremen and their teams on the quality of work performed Interact and negotiate with vendors and sub-contractors to meet production goals Monitor material flow to prevent work stoppages due to missing material. Supply feedback to the engineering department from the trades for the purpose of improving the drawings supplied to the production teams. Identify process improvements and if approved, carry them forward until completion Understand and apply the standards in 46 CFR T, K, F, and J as well as ABS Steel Vessel Rules Serve as liaison to inspectors from USCG, US FDA, and ABS when they are present in shipyard. Seek quotes for equipment and parts needed for production and fabrication. Other tasks as directed RequirementsREQUIRED SKILLS:

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Construction Management, or similar from an accredited 4 year university 5 years minimum experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, salvage support, or other industrial construction setting is preferred Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills:
verbal and written English, mandatory. Experience with Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, as well as other engineering software such as SolidWorks. Must be able to take detailed verbal directions. Strong attention to quality, organization skills, computing, and presentation skills. Strong work ethic and dedication. Must work well in a team dynamic. Must have the ability to persuade PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to spend all day standing/walking/climbing throughout the shipyard and on ships under construction Ability to work outside in heat, inclement weather, and cold Ability to be physically able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. Ability to climb ladders and comply with OSHA standards. HAZARDS:
